First of all, what are your thoughts now that recording has wrapped up?
When I first saw the script, it was quite long. I anticipated a lengthy project, but things proceeded at a consistent pace.
Now that everything is wrapped up, I feel very relieved.
Can you tell us about your impressions of the script when you first read it, and if your impression changed at all after playing the role?
It was very close to daily life. Of course, the character design is extremely beautiful, but the subject matter is very realistic. I think players will find it very easy to immerse themselves in the story and feel close to the characters. As for my impressions of Rokuro Yoshioka... At first, I thought he was this really sharp and smart man—a capable person who could lead a company into the future despite his youth. But more than that, the game made a point of making him feel like a prince, so it was important for me to bring that into the recording.
What do you think is the primary appeal of your character, and what were you conscious of while recording them?
I mean this in the best way possible, but in a lot of ways it was really hard for me to empathize with the character.
We're so different. The way he speaks, his environment, the way he moves, all of it is so far removed from who I am. Honestly, that was a bit tough.
However, over the course of the recording, I came to see his humanity.
No matter how perfect someone appears on the outside, they are always striving for something else, and I found myself very conscious of that gap with him.
When he finds someone he likes, he makes the changes he needs to pursue them. I also find his faithfulness to his desires very attractive.
I felt a strong connection to him because of his free-spirited nature, and you always know that he's genuine.
It was a challenging role for sure, but it gave me a lot to think about, and I was glad for the opportunity to play it.
Can you tell us about a scene that you particularly enjoyed or one that stood out to you?
It's a very passionate drama and deals with characters working together to overcome various challenges in their life.
It's the same with Rokuro. The details of his story are fairly unique, but he's in the same boat as the main character. I think there are many players who have been in the same situation.
And so, I think for players, the drama is depicted in a way that makes it easy to immerse yourself. It is sure to give users some bright feelings and courage.
Recently, it's been tough to get people together for a drink. The scenes in the bar with everyone together seemed very nice.
I mean, the whole idea of working really hard and going for a drink after... I've always thought that was a great way to deepen relationships. Even just acting them out, I really enjoyed those scenes. There were a lot of parts like that which stuck with me, and there were a lot of heart-fluttering moments as well. I think there's a lot of charm and ways to enjoy this game.
The story of this game revolves around an "information app." Can you tell us about some of the apps you often use, or an app you wish existed?
I've recently started using apps to read various documents and materials.
It's very convenient not to be stuck keeping track of all that paper.
For example, if I get a manga for an audition, I have to think about a place to put it in my house, so I've been buying more digitally and reading them using reading apps. That said, I still have a soft spot in my heart for physical copies. When I visit the bookstore and smell the new books, I just love that. I'm not in any rush to go all digital.
In terms of an app I want... I'm very interested in fortune telling and spiritual things. I'd love an app where I could see people's aura! (Laughs) They say that auras change based on a person's emotions. I have a friend that's into spiritual stuff too. They say that through training, they can see other people's auras. They taught me how to do it, but it's pretty tough! (Laughs) I think if you knew someone's aura ahead of time, it could make your relations with them go smoother.
It might be rude, but you could hold your phone over their head and boot up the app. You would say "ah, good morning," and you could see what color their aura is that day. I think something like that would be fun! Sorry... (Laughs)
Are there any characters in the game that you relate to?
Hmm... That's a tough one, but someone I thought I'd want to be like is Saotome. He's pretty cool, and I think there are quite a few people out there who are similar to him.
He's very frank with people, and he's able to say what he thinks clearly. In that sense, maybe not having personal boundaries is a good thing? He's a kind of eccentric hitmaker who has the skills to back up what he says. I think that's really great. Even in Yoshioka's route, Saotome always stands up for Estario's interests, and I think it's cool how aggressive he is.
I think I'd be really inspired if I had a friend or colleague like that. I mean, I really admire him.
I think because I voiced him, I can say this, but I really have nothing in common with Yoshioka! (Laughs) I'm not a company president, not perfect, and certainly not a prince. I often wondered while I was voicing him, if the two of us met in real life, what would we say to each other?
The game features various occupations: app developers, heirs to big companies, freeloaders, bartenders. Would you like to try any of them in particular?
I'd definitely pick being a bartender. Cliché as it may sound, I have this image of bartenders being able to hear stories from people all over the world.
Being able to entertain adults, having the ability to interact with people, or knowing what someone needs as soon as you see them—that way of interacting with people is something I'd love to be able to do. I'd love to be a wingman and be able to say, "Excuse me? This drink is from that person over there" at least once in my life. (Laughs) Also, I'm a real lightweight when it comes to drinking, but I do like it.
Maybe if I became a bartender, I wouldn't be such a lightweight.
And I'd love to look like a classy bartender!
Finally, do you have a message for the fans?
Of all the titles I've worked on with Otomate, this one feels the most realistic. There's no magic or superpowers, which makes it all the more relatable for players.
The game also made me think a lot about my own performance in the context of my daily life and human relationships.
For me personally, as a character, Yoshioka felt very fresh, and voicing him allowed me to enter a world I've never touched before.
It was a bit of a hurdle for me at first, but there were so many things I learned and got to experience, so I'm really glad I did it.
There are so many interesting and charming characters, and they came together in such a great way to create a really wonderful game.
So I hope you all enjoy spending days with your favorite character, and please be sure to check them all out. I think this is a game that will bring lots of joy to your daily life and work. I hope these characters become a part of your everyday life!
Thank you for all your continued support!
