Tsugunobu is a highly regarded samurai in service of the Fujiwara clan of Oshu. Upon orders from Lord Hidehira Fujiwara, Tsugunobu joins Shanao on her journey and vows to serve her with his life.

His loyalty to Shanao comes not only from his vow of service, but also from his personal attachment to her. Soft-spoken and wise, he also has a dark side, especially when it comes to his younger brother.
